RIP

Peter Kennedy

It is withgreat sadnessthat we acknowledge the passing of Peter Kennedy on 28/5/23.

Peter Kennedy played with Dooleys Golf for the last 25 years, rarely missing a game. In that time, he was a Director on the Dooleys Club Board and an active member of the golf committee. Pete enjoyed his golf and particularly enjoyed the social aspect of golf.

Golfing aside, Pete was a selfless, fair and loyal man. He had the ability to befriend anyone and was well respected in the community. Pete was a proud family man and leaves behind his wife Val, 3 married children and 3 grandchildren. We will miss Pete and his friendly nature, both on and off the golf course. Pete’s legacy will be remembered for a long time.

In honour of Peter Kennedy, it was agreed at the recent golf committee meeting we would rename the (Winners) Shield for the September weekend of golf. It will now be known as the Peter Kennedy Memorial Trophy. Additionally, Peter will now be listed as a life member of the golf club.

This Saturday 24th June 2023 is at Woodville with a 7am tee off.

Today is a single strokeevent for the second round of the Club Championships.

Winner’s from Auburn on 27th May:

2nd place: Stuart Hurley Net 68 c/b

3rd place: Amanda DeHaas Net 68 c/b

4th place: Garry Mitchell Net 70

TOOTH: Troy Newall and Bernie Freeburn

16th hole: Fred McCarthy

7th hole: Not won

8th hole: Peter O’Brien

14th hole: Enda Scully

Matchplay results:

  • Enda Scully vs Charlie Scully

       Enda won 6 and 5

  • Eddie Habib vs Bernie Freeburn

Eddie won 1 up

  • Bruce Farqhuar vs Peter O’Brien

All square after 18 holes. It was agreed to play a putt off on the practice green. After playing 3 putting holes, it was still all square. Bruce won on the next putting hole.

  • Fred McCarthy vs Col Bentley

When the cards were checked after the game, it was found that Fred and Col were all square. Prior to our next match play game Fred and Col will play a putt off (the same as Peter and Bruce) to decide the winner.

After our recent golf committee meeting it was decided that if two players are equal at the end of 18 holes (of Matchplay) a golf putt off will be used as a decider (best of 3 holes). The reason being, is that we have less groups of golfers and we cannot just jump ahead of other non Dooley’s playing groups to play an extra hole. Also, because the cards are not checked directly after a game, we need to ensure that the cards have been marked correctly, so if a play off is required we can do this at a later date.

The next Match play will be on 19th August at Auburn. Good luck to the four remaining players.
