BBQ cooks:

Again, we can’t thank Val Kennedy enough for coming along and cooking for us each Saturday, she does a great job. Val was ably supported by Sheila O’Brien at our last game and we appreciated her assistance and welcome her back anytime.

On the mend:

Denis Smith is still slowly recovering from his fall. We wish him well and hope to see him back a little later in the year.

Also keep in mind John Poropat. John had a knee replacement two weeks ago and is recovering well. We hope to see him back with us in the not too distant future.

Bruce Farquhar has had some minor heart surgery this week and should be fully fit for our next game in July.

Slow golf play:

Please be mindful of keeping up with the group in front of you. In recent games we have had some large gaps between groups happening. If we all do the little things better, it will help to speed up play.

Things like:

  • When you get to the next tee, play your shot whilst your partner is marking their card and then you mark your card whilst they play their shot.
  • Walk directly to your ball and as long as you aren’t in front of another player, play your shot. Try not to stand around watching others play.
  • If you are in a cart and you are the driver. Drive to your partners ball and if your ball isn’t near, drop them off to play their shot. Whilst you drive to your ball and play your shot.
  • If the person listed first in your group on the draw, makes an effort to ensure that his or her group keeps up with the group in front.
  • Under the rules of golf, you are allowed 3 minutes to find a ball assumed lost. Please keep this in mind.

Also:

We have a Dooley’s rule (introduced a number of years ago to keep the game moving along).

If a player hits a tee shot that has or possibly gone “out of bounds”, he or she may hit a provisional ball from where the original ball was hit from. This would be their third shot from the tee area. But if the player chose to go and look for their original ball and couldn’t find it, rather than go back to the tee they would take a drop as close to where the original ball went out of bounds. This would incur a two stroke penalty, thus meaning they would then be playing their fourth shot. The whole purpose of this was to save people losing time walking back to the tee and holding the following group up.

If any of the above doesn’t make sense or needs further explanation, please see our Captain - Stuart Hurley or Bernie Freeburn.

Drive and Pitch trial:

Over the coming months we will be trialling a drive and pitch on one of the par five holes at Auburn and Woodville. This is just to mix it up a bit, rather than play the same holes repetitively each round. Initially we will try the 0-28 handicappers get 4 shots and 29+ handicapper get five shots. We will commence this today at Woodville.
