NEW AND FORMER PLAYERS
At Woodville, we welcomed a new player ASHTON JOHNSON. ASHTON was at Woodville for a social game of golf. He was talking to JASON the local pro about joining a social group of golfers. So, JASON asked if he could join us and of course we welcomed him. ASHTON is a member of DOOLEYS and we hope he has enjoyed his day with us and that he will become a regular member of our Golf Group.
Also on Saturday, it was great to see MITCHELL WOODS return to have a game with us. MITCHELL is the son of STEPHEN and last played with us on a visit to Sydney in March 2015. MITCHELL has now returned to Sydney. He has played 48 games with and we hope he can once again become a regular player with us. Welcome back MITCHELL.

TODAY’S GAME
Today we return to Georges River formerly known as Riverwood. We have played two games at Riverwood. The first game was in July 1981 with 30 players attending and the second time we played at Riverwood was in September 1995 when 34 players attended. On that day it rained and the BBQ was done by DOT ROSS and BETH KENNY in a very leaky shed.
Today there are no BBQ facilities. TODAY THERE WILL BE NO BBQ. Buy your own at the pro shop and the Club House at your OWN EXPENSE.

TREASURER’S TROPHY
Two competitors remaining in the Match Play contest were unable to attend the day and consequently forfeit their matches. One match was only played over nine holes as the competitors were washed out after only playing nine holes. This was the closest match of the day with the winner winning 1 UP after nine holes. Four of the remaining five matches were won 4 and 3 and the final match was won 6 and 5. The results were:
1. ROBERT RYAN (16) Vs 16. AUBREY SYMES (16}. ROBERT won this MATCH by forfeit. AUBREY was unable to attend due to work commitments.
9. IAN BARBER (38) Vs 5. BERNIE FREEBURN (13). On the outward run both players halved the sixth hole. IAN began strongly by winning the first three holes but BERNIE retaliated by winning the next two holes. IAN then won the seventh and eighth holes but BERNIE claimed the ninth hole to be 2 DOWN with nine to play. The tenth hole was won by IAN, the eleventh by BERNIE and the twelfth was won by IAN. IAN was three UP with six holes to play. The next two holes were halved and IAN won the fifteenth hole to claim the MATCH 4 and 3.
35. STEPHEN WOODS (16) Vs 22. DENIS COLLINS (17). This would appear to be a close tussle with DENIS receiving a stroke from STEPHEN on the hardest hole. These players only played nine holes as they considered it too wet to continue playing eighteen holes. Both players recorded a 7 on the 1st hole but STEPHEN lost the hole as this was the hardest hole. The next two holes were halved and then DENIS won the 4th hole but then lost the 5th hole to STEPHEN. The 6th hole was halved and STEPHEN won the 7th hole to square the match. The 8th hole was halved and DENIS won the 9th hole and as both players agreed to call it quits at the halfway, DENIS won the MATCH 1 UP although they did not play the home nine.
19. BRUCE FARQUHAR (29) Vs 30. MICHAEL LENART (21). BRUCE began brilliantly by winning the first four holes. MICHAEL won the next two holes. The seventh hole was halved and MICHAEL won the remaining two holes for the match to be all square after nine holes. On the homeward run holes twelve and fourteen were halved. In a turn around BRUCE lost his early form and allowed MICHAEL to win holes 10, 11, 13 and 15 and the MATCH 4 and 3.
4. STUART HURLEY (27) Vs 13. JOHN SHANLEY (45). JOHN won this MATCH by forfeit. STUART was unable to attend due to work commitments.
21. RICK CLIFFORD (25) Vs 8. GARRY MITCHELL (21). After doing battle through nine holes nothing could separate these two combatants. RICK won three holes and not to be outdone GARRY won three holes. The other three holes were tied. What a different story on the back nine. The two combatants tied the twelfth and fourteenth holes but RICK was able to win holes 10, 11, 13 and 15 to comfortably win the MATCH 4 and 3.
6. JOHN SLATER (31) Vs 23. JOHN POROPAT (18). JOHN SLATER was in receipt of a stroke from JOHN POROPAT on thirteen holes. On their front nine JOHN SLATER had a stroke advantage on eight holes. The opponents tied five of these holes. JOHN POROPAT won three of the remaining holes whereas JOHN SLATER was able to win the ninth hole. JOHN POROPAT was 2 UP at the turn. After tying holes 11 and 13, JOHN POROPAT by winning holes 10 and 12 was 4 UP with five holes remaining. JOHN SLATER reduced the lead by winning the fourteenth hole but then lost the next holes allowing JOHN POROPAT to take the MATCH 4 and 3.
15. SONYA LENART (45) Vs MICHAEL ALCHIN (37). MICHAEL was on fire during the front nine. Holes 1, 8 and 9 were halved, however SONYA could not control MICHAEL as he won the other six holes to be 6 UP at the halfway point. SONYA then won the tenth hole but lost the next hole to remain 6 DOWN with seven holes to play. Holes 12 and 13 were halved allowing MICHAEL to win the MATCH 6 and 5.
