Today we play the final game for this year at Woodville. Today is a FUN DAY. We are playing a four person AMBROSE Event. It is hoped everyone enjoys their day of golf especially, the short hitters, as they will be playing their second and third shots a lot closer to the greens than they are used to. Have a great final day and we hope you all receive a nice little Christmas surprise.
It is also the FINAL FUND RAISING DAY for the CHILDREN WITH CANCER.
GIVE GENEROUSLY

AGM
The Annual General Meeting of the Golf Club will be held on Monday 21st January 2019 at 8.00 pm at DOOLEYS Lidcombe Catholic Club. It would be great to see everyone in attendance and be willing and able to contribute towards the running of the Golf Club. A Golf Committee must be elected.
LAST DAY
What a perfect day, it was spring, the weather was fantastic, not to hot and not to cold and the golf course was in excellent condition. Cumberland Council has announced plans that it will spend $1.5M on Fairway watering at Woodville next year. This should improve the course immensely. It was interesting to note that the first group on each nine completed their rounds in 4 ¼ hours. This is what we would like to see all the groups do. Have a great day an enjoy the 4 PERSON Ambrose game.

A WORD of THANKS
TO ALL who CONTRIBUTED
TOWARDS MAKING the DOOLEY
GOLF DAYS such a SUCCESS
To TERRY KENNY, what a marathon effort, thank you for all you do. The list of jobs and information you record behind the scenes is incredible - wow thank you so much from us all!
To our President BERNIE FREEBURN for ensuring the Golf Club continues to run so smoothly. Without BERNIE we would be leaderless.
To ANNE DELANEY our delightful Secretary, for maintaining the minutes of all our meetings, attending to correspondence, course bookings, contributing words of wisdom for Dooley Divots, attending the Sports Council Meetings and for providing tea and coffee at all our games.
To our Club Organiser and Trailer Driver GARRY MITCHELL for his complete GENEROSITY in bringing and returning the Golf Trailer to every golf day. GARRY collects and returns the trailer to DOOLEYS at Lidcombe. He supervises the packing and repacking of the trailer, the setting up of the BBQ and ensures the area is clean before he leaves. GARRY supplies the ICE for each Golf Day FREE of CHARGE.
To our Golf Club Captain ANNA RYAN for ensuring we all maintain Golf Etiquette and abide by the Rules of Golf.
To ROBERT RYAN who is responsible for collating, putting together and publishing all the articles for DOOLEY Divots and for maintaining and putting all the information onto the Golf web site.
To our Handicapper ADAM WELTON who endeavours to ensure our Golf Handicaps are fair. He tries very hard to keep all of us golfers honest by his handicapping system and HE TRIES EXTREMALY HARD to share the TROPHIES amongst all the golfers. ADAM is also responsible for attending to out thirst each Golf day. He procures the splits to satisfy and quench our thirst at each golf day.
To SUE DELANEY for collecting the Green Fees, collecting the deposits for the Weekend of Golf and for balancing the monies collected on each and every Golf Day.
To JENNY DELANEY also supplies the jokes for DOOLEY Divots which brings a smile to all our faces and gives us all a laugh.
To PETER KENNEDY for maintaining the points score for the Pat Connell Trophy and for ensuring nominations are taken at each Golf day for the following game.
To PATRICK KAIN for all the emailing he does on behalf of the Golf Club including the monthly Golf Draw and DOOLEY Divots.
To RAY STEEDMAN and at our last game and at today’s game ANN HURLEY our MASTER CHEF’S and CUSTODIAN’S. What would we do without them? RAY and ANN have given freely of their time to see to our needs and to ensure everyone is fed so that we can all ENJOY OURSELVES.
To BILL FREEMAN for being one of our delegates to the Sports Council. BILL has not been well this year and underwent bypass surgery and at the moment is unable to drive. We wish BILL a speedy recovery and that he will be back on the golf course next year.
To STEPHEN WOODS and BRUCE FARQUHAR for procuring that most important commodity and that is the food to feed us Golfers at each golf outing. Without the food we would starve and go hungry.
To DENIS COLLINS who volunteered to take over doing the Golf Draw. It is an unenviable task subject to some objections and a little ridicule.
To JUDY PEMBLE and WENDY WOODS who procure the Trophies for the WEEKEND of GOLF and for the Last Golf Day. What would we do without these wonderful ladies.
In fact what would the GOLF CLUB do without people like these who CONTRIBUTE SO MUCH
Finally, to all the DOOLEY GOLFERS for attending and assisting in undertaking the many tasks needed to make the DOO0LEY Golf Days so enjoyable and such a success.

GOLFING ATTENDANCE
After our last game 61 individual players (1 less than last year) have attended one or more of the eleven (11) games we have played. They have attended 378 games which is 49 games less than last year.
Average attendance was 34.4 which is four point four (4.4) less than last year.
It is obvious we NEED MORE SOCIAL PLAYERS. New players and former players are most welcomed to join or re-join our Social Group.

There were two (2) players not eligible, as they had not attended eight (8) games throughout the year.
Congratulations to GARRY MITCHELL who amassed 82 points for his two rounds of stableford. Commiserations to STUART HURLEY who missed by three (3) stableford points. Another five (5) points behind STUART was ANNA RYAN with DENNIS COLLINS a further 2 points in arrears.

PETER ROSS MEMORIAL TROPHY
This trophy is a stableford event played over three different courses in June, July and August at Woodville, Fairfield and Auburn
After the first round TROY NEWALL with 47 points was the early leader a point ahead of BRUCE FARQUHAR and WAYNE SELFRIDGE who were two (2) points clear of MANNY CASTILLO and JOHN SLATER. A further point behind with 43 points were SONYA LENART and JOHN POROPAT.
After the second round, WAYNE SELFRIDGE with another consistent round with 44 points for a combined total of 90 points was three (3) points clear of MICHAEL ALCHIN who had won the day with a magnificent round of 48. WILLIAM KAIN was a point further behind followed by TROY NEWALL with 84 points and JOHN SLATER with 83 points.
Only twenty-one (21) players completed all three rounds for this trophy. All together forty-five (45) participated in one or more games. In the final round, WAYNE SELFRIDGE only managed to score 24 points to add to his previous total to give him a total score of 114 points for his three rounds. This was insufficient for him to win. MICHAEL ALCHIN again won the day with 38 points to give him a total of 125 points for the three rounds more than enough to win this prestigious trophy. MICHAEL was 5 points clear of JOHN SLATER with another 4 points to the third placegetter WILLIAM KAIN who was ineligible for the trophy. WAYNE SELFRIDGE was officially third with 114 points. Congratulations to MICHAEL on a splendid win.
ALF MARNEY MEMORIAL TROPHY
This trophy is competed for at every games we play throughout the year excluding the last game. 10 points are awarded for attendance and 10 points downwards for finishing in the first ten.
As reported last month only four players were in contention to win this trophy. MICHAEL ALCHIN had a five (5) point advantage over GARRY MITCHELL and JOHN SLATER. The other player in contention WAYNE SELFRIDGE was unable to attend the day.
On the day, MICHAEL and JOHN did not finish in the top ten so they only received 10 points for attendance. However on the other hand GARRY was the runner-up and received nineteen (19) points for his effort. GARRY had the honour of being the most consistent player throughout the year and the winner of the oldest and the most prestigious ALF MARNEY MEMORIAL TROPHY. Congratulations and well done GARRY.
GARRY amassed 139 over the 11 games where as MICHAEL amassed his 135 points over 10 games. It pays dividends to be in attendance at each and every game to be in contention for this trophy.
The leading score were:
Pts Pts
- GARRY MITCHELL 139 6. DENIS COLLINS 122
- MICHAEL ALCHIN 135 7. ANNA RYAN 122
- JOHN SLATER 130 8. BRUCE FARQUHAR 117
- RICK CLIFFORD 123 9. JENNY FREEBURN 117
- STUART HURLEY 123 10. KIERAN JACKSON 116
11. WAYNE SELFRIDGE 116
DICK DIXON TROPHY
The winner of this trophy is the player who accumulated the most Stableford points for six games from all the games played except the first and last games.
As indicated in the last issue of Divots it was almost impossible for MICHAEL ALCHIN to be defeated. WAYNE SELFRIDGE his nearest rival was unable to attend and STUART HURLEY and TROY NEWALL both 14 points behind MICHAEL would have to have outstanding games to dethrone MICHAEL. MICHAEL could not improve on his 237 points but TROY improved by 11 points, GARRY MITCHELL improved his score by 9 points, JOHN SLATER and STIART improved their score by 5 points. Unfortunately no one improved enough to overhaul MICHAEL.
MICHAEL, GARRY and JOHN’s scores were taken from all 10 competitive games. STUART competed in 9 games and TROY and WAYNE only played 8 games from which their six best scores were taken from. If you wish to be competitive you must compete in all games.
Congratulations to MICHAEL on a great win and a fantastic performance.
The leading scorers were:
1. MICHAEL ALCHIN 237 Pts 6. STUART HURLEY 227 Pts
2. TROY NEWALL 234 Pts 7. ANNA RYAN 226 Pts
3. GARRY MITCHELL 231 Pts 8. JACOB PEMBLE 223 Pts
4. WAYNE SELFRIDGE 229 Pts 9. DAVID QUINELL 223 Pts
5. JOHN SLATER 228 Pts 10. RICK CLIFFORD 221 Pts
PAT CONNELL TROPHY
This trophy is played for over all the ten competitive games from game 2 to game 11. Six (6) holes are independently selected for each game and points are awarded for a hole-in-one, eagles, birdies and pars. The player with the highest score at the completion of the last game is the WINNER.
After two games five (5) players namely MICHAEL ALCHIN, IAN BARBER, BRUCE FARQUHAR, BERNIE FREEBURN and WAYNE SELFRIDGE shared the lead with 25 points. Trailing these early leaders by a single point were DENIS COLLINS, FRED Mc CARTHY, JOHN POROPAT and AUBREY SYMES.
After three more games, there were some changes to the leader board. MATTHEW JENKINS had taken the lead with 66 points and was six (6) points clear of JOHN POROPAT, WAYNE SELFRIDGE and ADAM WELTON. Trailing by a point were IAN BARBER and GARRY MITCHELL.
With two games, remaining WILLIAM KAIN with 97 points had taken a slender one point, lead ahead of BERNIE FREEBURN and EDDIE HABIB with ROBERT FINN a point behind then it was two points to ADAM WELTON.
After the July game GARRY MITCHELL and WAYNE SELFRIDGE shared the lead with 75 points. IAN BARBER was 2 points behind with MICHAEL ALCHIN a further 3 points in arrears.
With the September game WAYNE SELFRIDGE led with 100 points and was 4 points clear of IAN BARBER and GARRY MITCHELL. However, after the second last game GARRY was 11 points clear of IAN. Trailing by a point was STUART HURLEY with a further point to MICHAEL ALCHIN and WAYNE.
After the final game, GARRY MITCHELL was able to maintain his lead and with 126 points was 10 points ahead of STUART HURLEY. MICHAEL ALCHIN was next a further 6 points in arrears.
Well done GARRY on a great win. You do not have to be among the early leaders, but a consistent performance at the end of the competition will often pay dividends.
TREASURER’S TROPHY
MICHAEL LENART playing off a handicap of 21 had to concede a stroke on the three (3) hardest holes to RICK CLIFFORD who had a handicap of 24. The result was:
30. MICHAEL LENART (21) Vs 21. RICK CLIFFORD (24). On the outward run the 1st, 2nd, 8th and 9th holes were all square. RICK won holes 3, 4 and 5 before MICHAEL struck some form to win the 6th hole. RICK immediately retaliated to win the 7th hole. So after nine holes RICK had established a handy 3 Up lead with the back nine to play.
On the homeward run MICHAEL began strongly by winning the tenth hole. The 11th hole was halved. Then RICK won the next three holes to be 5 Up with four holes remaining. RICK won the MATCHPLAY game 5 and 4.
Congratulations RICK on a brilliant all the way win. Commiserations to MICHAEL for reaching the finals but he was unable to display his normal confident game on the day as he did in the semi-finals.
CAPTAIN’S TROPHY
This trophy was played for at GEORGES RIVER in MAY.
The event was a putting contest over the 18 holes.
The winner being the played with the least number of putts.
The winner must at least attend the stipulated eight (8) games.
In this event you have to record all your putts on the putting green.
In you wipe a hole and did not putt – then 3 putts are recorded for the hole.
Thirty-five (35) players contested the event.
EDDIE HABIB was the winner of this trophy last year with 9 one putt and 9 two putt greens for a total of 27 putts. AMAZINGLY this was NO FLUKE he has done it again recording 27 putts – 9 one putt and 9 two putt greens the SAME NUMBER of PUTTS as LAST YEAR.
The actual runner-up was BERNIE FREEBURN 3 putts in arrears. CHARLIE SCULLY was next a stroke behind followed by five (5) eligible players a further stroke behind.
MATTHEW JENKINS and DAVID QUINELL recorded 29 putts but only played 7 games, and JOHN SHANLEY with 30 putts also only played 7 games.
Congratulations EDDIE for an amazing putting display of putting once again and commiserations to those who missed out. The rest of us will need to have putting lessons from EDDIE.
This is the eighth year the Captain’s Trophy has been decided by a putting competition. Previous winners were:
2011 DAVID Mc INTOSH (20) 27 Putts
2012 BERNIE FREEBURN (13) 27 Putts
2013 WARREN DYER (11) 23 Putts
2014 BERNIE FREEBURN (11) 27 Putts
2015 KIERIN O’HARA (19) 26 Putts
2016 PAUL BARTON (13) 28 Putts
2017 EDDIE HABIB (16) 27 Putts
2018 EDDIE HABIB (16) 27 Putts
It would be lovely when a CAPTAIN could come up with a competition that gives us hapless golfers some chance of winning the competition.
THE ECLECTIC COMPETITION
The Eclectic Competition is decided over 10 games. The Game at Sefton and the last game, are not taken into consideration. To be eligible a player must of have played six (6) games in the Eclectic competition.
Each players SCORE for each HOLE for every game is then recorded. Then the lowest score for each hole from ALL THE GAMES is recorded. Then the lowest score recorded for each of the eighteen (18) holes is totalled.
This year 3/4 of your handicap as at the 30th September is deducted to determine your net score. (2019 – ¼ ; 2020 – ½; 2021 – 2/3; 2022 – 1/3; 2023 – ¾ )
This year playing off 3/4 of your handicap as at the 30th September. There were thirty-seven (37) players eligible for the Eclectic Competition. There were three (3) players with a net score of less than 40 strokes. There were another eighteen (18) players finished below a net 50 strokes. Scores ranged between 37 3/4 and 55 3/4 strokes with 0ne player outside this range.
ANNA RYAN with a net score of 37 3/4 was the winner by a stroke from IAN BARBER who finished with a net 38 3/4 ahead of TROY NEWALL who finished with a net 39 1/2. JOHN SLATER (42 1/4), WAYNE SELFRIDGW (43 3/4) and GARRY MITCHELL (44 1/4) were the other players leading the chase.
The Eclectic pool this year was $180.50. The eclectic is collected by collecting 50c from each person’s green fees at each game throughout the year. The distribution this year is:
ANNA RYAN receives 60% $108.30
IAN BARBER receives 25% $ 45.15
TROY NEWALL receives 10% $ 18.05
